About Newmarket’s Racecourse Guineas Festival

This high-octane weekend of racing revolves around two races. On Saturday it is the QIPCO 2000 Guineas. A Group 1 race for three-year-old colts and horse like Frankel first made his name here.

On Sunday the QIPCO 1000 Guineas is one of only two fillies-only Classics (the other being The Oaks)and features three-year-olds running a distance of one mile.

They’ve been racing horse here since Charles II fell for the town in 1666 and he is said to have raced the course in 1671. For the record, the 2000 Guineas was inaugurated in 1809, with the 1000 Guineas following in 1814.
